Does the skin peel more intensively after oxybrasion?

No – after oxybrasion the skin usually does not peel more than normal. The treatment gently removes dead skin cells without damaging the skin or breaking the tissue integrity, so there is none of the visible flaking you may know from stronger peels. The saline mist delivered under pressure in a stream of air hydrates and oxygenates the skin, which looks bright and feels elastic afterwards.

Why your skin does not peel after oxybrasion

Oxybrasion, also known as an oxygen facial or water-oxygen peel, is a non-contact treatment. The cosmetologist holds the applicator about 1 cm above the skin, and fine droplets of sterile saline, ejected in a stream of air under pressure (6–10 bar, depending on the device), lift dead cells from the surface of the epidermis. The dead cells are removed during the treatment itself, while the deeper layers of the epidermis stay intact.

By comparison, alumina or diamond microdermabrasion and acid peels exfoliate much more strongly, and temporary peeling afterwards can be a natural part of skin renewal. Oxybrasion is far gentler, which is why it is also recommended for people who cannot have deep mechanical exfoliation.

What your skin looks like right after the treatment

You can see the effect after the very first session. Straight after oxybrasion your skin is:

smooth, radiant and more even in tone,
hydrated and oxygenated,
sometimes slightly pink, because the treatment boosts circulation – this usually fades quickly,
more receptive to the active ingredients of the products applied afterwards.

That is why an oxygen facial works so well before a special occasion – you do not need to plan several days of recovery.

If your skin feels dry – what to keep in mind

If you notice a few small dry flakes after the treatment, the cause is usually a tendency to dryness or strong exfoliating products used at home at the same time. A few simple rules help:

moisturise with a gentle cream and do not pick at dry skin,
skip home scrubs and acids for a few days,
protect your face with SPF,
during the consultation, tell the cosmetologist about any acids, retinoids or recent laser treatments – a waiting period applies after them.
