Chemical peel – that sounds dangerous. Surprisingly, exfoliating treatments with the use of natural acids or enzymes are often so delicate that the exfoliation is barely noticeable. Despite that, the complexion after such treatment is smooth, fresh and radiant, and the wrinkles are reduced with deep peels. How is that possible?

Acids and enzymes

The key for understanding a phenomena in which the link between the epidermal cells is dissolved, and the skin does not lose on that, but quite the opposite, gains, is the use of acids and enzymes that naturally occur in nature and awakening of the skin with their use.

Chemical peel – how does it work?

When a mixture of acids or enzymes is put on top of the skin and dissolves the epidermal cells, there is a loosening of the top layer of the tissue. In that way we get rid of cornified, dead cells, and the fresh layer of tissue is revealed, as it was previously hidden under layers of old cells. It is a new layer, with less imperfections, or completely without them. What is important, whatever the depth of exfoliation, cell division is stimulated, which helps skin renewal.

Acid or enzymes? Exfoliating treatments under the magnifying glass

What accompanies the loosening of the cell structure is exfoliation of the top layer of the tissue. The degree and intensity of this process are dependent to three factors:

  • The time of contact between active substance and the tissue;
  • The concentration of exfoliating ingredients;
  • The composition of the exfoliating mixture – it may consist of a couple of acids, one acid, or an enzyme, a protein of pickling activity.

In a chemical peel the most used active ingredients are naturally present hydroacids – alpha, beta, and enzymes. Fruits contain the largest amount of acids and enzymes and that is where they are derived from (e.g. citric acid, papain enzyme, or bromelain from pineapple.) The source of acids is also willow bark (e.g. salicylic acid) and nuts (e.g. almond acid.)

Acidic or enzyme exfoliation and its effects

You do not have to wait long for the results of a chemical peel, as the first effects appear directly after removal of the substance from the skin – always after the first treatment, whatever the depth of exfoliation. Further positive results of chemical exfoliation can be seen a couple of weeks after the treatment – it will be the effect of the awakening of the cell division, thanks to which the skin rebuilds itself faster, and the betterment of the complexion. Thanks to deep exfoliation, which gets as deep as skin reticule, you may even get an anti-wrinkle treatment.

Is exfoliation via chemical peels safe?

Do not worry: there is no need to be afraid of acid or enzyme peels. Thanks to a variety of active ingredients, the acids and enzymes can be put together in such a way that the unwanted effect of the treatment, excessive exfoliation, will not be visible. The only requirement is getting to know your skin type and its needs during inquiry – at Easy Waxing in Warsaw or Wrocław it is an essential step to start a cooperation of the cosmetologist with the client.

Exfoliation only in autumn – is it a myth?

The larger amount of sunrays falling directly on the delicate, post-treatment skin is inadvisable – the tissue which is aggravated by the treatment can react with over-sensitiveness, allergy, or discoloration. The recommendation to do exfoliating treatments in autumn-winter time due to lack of harsh sun stays valid. Luckily, there are cosmetic solutions that allow the exfoliating treatment without the aggravation and unwanted bad reaction to the sun.

Important: chemical peels are mostly done in autumn-winter period not only due to sun protection – at that time a lot of imperfections previously masked with tan are revealed.
