Can Vinylux polish be applied directly to the natural nail without buffing?
Yes. Vinylux polish is applied directly to the natural nail and does not need the buffing that is usually done before a hybrid (gel) manicure or pedicure, which makes nail prep quicker and gentler on the nail plate. What really matters is that the nail is clean, dry and thoroughly dehydrated – free of cream, cuticle oil and any old polish.
Why Vinylux does not need buffing
Buffing the nail surface is mainly used with hybrid polishes, to help the layers cured under a lamp grip the nail. Vinylux works differently. It is a two-step CND system: the colour polish has a built-in base, and the top coat hardens with exposure to natural daylight. The polish air-dries and needs no UV/LED lamp. Skipping the buffing step means the nail plate is not filed down any further, which is especially worth considering if your nails are thin.
How to prepare the nail for Vinylux polish
Preparing the nail for Vinylux is simple, but it largely determines how long the colour will stay fresh. The key steps are:
- Trim and shape – toenails are best cut straight across, with the free edge smoothed with a file.
- Cuticle care – neat cuticles let the polish be applied evenly close to the nail fold.
- Remove old polish – a regular nail polish remover is all you need.
- Dehydrate the nail – right before painting, because the creams and oils used during foot care reduce adhesion.
- No extra base coat – Vinylux colour goes straight onto the prepared nail and is finished with the top coat.
What if your nails are weak?
Vinylux is a colour polish, not a nail treatment – it does not strengthen the nail plate or replace nail care. If your nails are soft, brittle or splitting, consider a therapeutic pedicure with a nail conditioner, where the product is chosen to suit the condition of your nails. If you notice changes that may have a medical cause, such as discolouration or thickening of the nail, please consult a doctor or podiatrist.
