Pedicure and spray tanning?

Pedicure and Spray Tanning – How to Combine These Treatments?

Combining a pedicure with spray tanning requires the right order and some important precautions to achieve the best results for both treatments. Similar to a manicure, a gel (hybrid) pedicure can be performed, but a traditional pedicure with regular nail polish is not recommended before spray tanning.

Traditional Pedicure and Spray Tanning

A traditional pedicure uses regular nail polish, which needs several hours to fully dry and cure. If spray tanning is applied too soon after a traditional pedicure, it can lead to:

  • Uneven application of the tanning solution, especially around the nails,
  • Smudging or streaking of the nail polish, as the moisture from the tanning spray can interfere with the drying process,
  • Discoloration of the nail polish, if the tanning product reacts with it.

For this reason, a traditional pedicure should be done at least a day before spray tanning to allow the polish to fully harden.

Gel (Hybrid) Pedicure and Spray Tanning

A gel (hybrid) pedicure can be safely combined with spray tanning, as long as the proper sequence is followed:

  1. The gel pedicure should be done first, as gel polish is cured under UV/LED light and does not get affected by moisture.
  2. After completing the pedicure, you can proceed with spray tanning, without the risk of damaging your nail polish.
  3. During the pedicure, it’s important to ask the technician to avoid applying lotion or oil to the feet, as oily substances can prevent the tanning solution from absorbing evenly, leading to streaks or patchy color.

Additional Tips

  • If the spray tan is applied first, it’s best to wait at least 24 hours before getting a pedicure to allow the tan to fully develop and set.
  • Avoid soaking the feet for 8–12 hours after a spray tan, so scheduling a pedicure immediately after tanning is not ideal, as pedicure treatments typically involve a foot soak.
  • If a pedicure is done after tanning, avoid intense exfoliation and scrubbing, as this can remove the tan, particularly on the heels and toes.

A traditional pedicure before spray tanning is not recommended, as the polish may smudge or become discolored.

A gel (hybrid) pedicure can be safely combined with spray tanning, but it should be done before tanning to protect the nail color.

No lotions or oils should be applied to the feet during a pedicure, to ensure an even tan application.

Plan the timing of both treatments carefully, to maximize the results of both the pedicure and the spray tan.
